MooPig Brain Industries :: "Do You Like Lists?"
If you like Lists, there are some Tests that you can take
Mixed Mental articles by Pat Darnell | Oct 20, 2015 | Bryan TX
"I don't know what to think," said the mother of her two year old daughter. "She talks in paragraphs already, and looks out for her little brother in the most altruistic manner."
This doesn't sound much like a problem. It sounds like a bonus to having her beautiful little doll-like daughter at her side. I am here to let all parents know, there is no "Normal" child pattern. Pre-schoolers are beings from another time and space. So, lighten up. There is no "narrative" of children because there are no five year old authors. Childrens' books are written and illustrated mainly by adults. No child is writing his memoirs while a child, that is not how they communicate. Blah, blah, blah.
Get this though, most planet-sized-corporational-mega-industrial-conglomerates would bust a hemorrhage to get into a child's head. It would open up markets to exploit, that remain confusing at best to capture. We will soon enter into the Exploits of Brains era.
But at last writers in unflaggingly personal ways, are publishing their daily experience with their own minds:
12 Struggles Of Having An Outgoing Personality But An Anxious Mind: "Outgoing people with anxious minds - or minds that overthink - tend to feel anxiety the most intensely, often because we don't talk about it. And by "often" I mean never."

MooPig has spent some effort in recognizing humanity's ongoing search for itself. The next hundred years will be the "Brain Age" as humans gaze into their own heads. Leading up to this Brain Age is what Mack Jones, MooPig Editor of Cognitive Dissonance, has termed Brain Industries.
The current way many brain specialists look at your brain requires a personality quiz. They are about $200, and can be taken at any psychologist's office. They do help in determining if you and your brain are depressed, or manically inclined, or both.
"I have exposed myself to these tests, and have become somewhat more tolerant of others," said Mack Jones.

How Can iPAD Help with Brain Disorder...?

CONCLUSION
We haven't tested this App. If a person is schizophrenic, he often doesn't know it. And this App probably will become the most referred App in the world, because everyone will see its importance as it applies to "someone else," such as a relative, a friend, or a friend of a friend. Lord help us.
In our humble opinion, if you are sensitive or actually have a condition that inhibits your everyday activity, you might be interested in how "technology" can help you in your journeys.
It so happens that we noticed a long time ago that the computer age was developed by an elite class of journeymen scientists and politicians. We saw very little being done to make, for instance, the QWERTY keyboard more suited to those who cannot type. Any individual might not be able to type because they have no fingers, or because they have no cognitive engine. It is obvious that little to nothing has been done to make the Internet accessible for seeing impaired people, or for hearing impaired, or for speech impaired... and so on.
The biggest draw on the Internet is "Ridiculousness" ... that's right. The act of turning every effort into a monstrous exhibition of chaotic cacophonous rancor ... either via youTube, Social Media, or pornography. This is the aspect of the Internet that turns off the "older generation." Until Generation Jones is no longer the majority, Internet will suffer in areas of control and legislation.
If just one half-wit today realizes how useless the Internet is for those who cannot merge on the highway of information, due to personal infirmity, something could be done.

Re-directed article fully quoted as follows:
"... A “brain training” game improves the cognitive function of people with schizophrenia and facilitates everyday tasks, according to researchers at the University of Cambridge.Brain training app could help people with schizophrenia - Yahoo News Canada: "Importantly, the patients also said they enjoyed the game and were motivated to play it across the eight hours of cognitive training. The researchers said this was important, since lack of motivation is a common feature of schizophrenia.
Wizard, which will now be available on iOS (Apple’s operating system) as part of the Peak app, was tested for four weeks by 22 participants with a schizophrenia diagnosis.
"... Schizophrenia is a long-term mental health condition which can contribute to behavioural changes, confused thinking, apathy and, in some cases, delusions or hallucinations.
People with schizophrenia may experience cognitive impairments, including poor episodic memory, which affects remembering things such as times and dates, and understanding context.
"... Wizard aims to improve the cognitive functionality and episodic memory of people with schizophrenia, with in-game tasks including users moving through rooms and identifying items in boxes and character locations.
"... Professor Barbara Sahakian, who developed the game alongside Tom Piercy at Cambridge, said: “We need a way of treating the cognitive symptoms of schizophrenia, such as problems with episodic memory, but slow progress is being made towards developing a drug treatment. So this proof-of-concept study is important because it demonstrates that the memory game can help where drugs have so far failed.
"... “Because the game is interesting, even those patients with a general lack of motivation are spurred on to continue the training.”
"... Another member of the research team, Peter Jones, added that further studies with larger sample sizes would need to be carried out to confirm the current findings, but that: “in conjunction with medication and current psychological therapies, [Wizard] could help people with schizophrenia minimise the impact of their illness on everyday life.” (Hannah Jane Parkinson. Right-Brain or Left-Brain Thinkers ... or Something more Subtle?
Mixed Martial Articles by Pat Darnell | Apr 10, 2015 | Bryan TX
Whatever your local neurosciencetist says, we are only a wee bit further along in understanding how the brain works, as we were in 1800's. The Human Genome Map that was commissioned by Prez Clinton didn't pan out. It only makes sense if you are a gene looking for a place to live in the human body. Otherwise a gene found in the human genome is sometimes activated, and sometimes not, according to the "environment." Aha!
So follows the Human Brain Map that is rapidly coming into view in the next few years. Brain imaging has taken off, and many before and after images can be viewed. Before someone's brain is worked on is imaged, and then afterwards is the result of the work. Still sounds gruesome, invasive and 19th century-like, doesn't it?
Debunking 7 Popular Myths About the Brain: "Brain imaging technologies have also demonstrated that the entire brain shows levels of activity, even during sleep. "It turns out though, that we use virtually every part of the brain, and that [most of] the brain is active almost all the time. Let's put it this way: the brain represents three percent of the body's weight and uses 20 percent of the body's energy." - Neurologist Barry Gordon of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Scientific American"
'via Blog this'
What 7 myths are we concerned with today?
- You only use 10% of your brain. Does that mean 10% of cubic inches of your three pounds of brain matter, or what?
- Brain damage is permanent.
- People are 'Right-brained' or 'Left-brained.'
- Humans have the largest brain.
- We are born with all the brain cells we ever have, and once they die, these cells are gone forever.
- Drinking alcohol kills brain cells.
- There are 100 billion neurons in the human brain.
If these seven myths are not accurate depictions of the human brain, then our next president will use 100% of his brain, continue to grow brain cells even if he is a she named Gabby. It matters if the next prez can count and utter words, like it always has, right or left brained, random or dogmatic, as it will come out in the wash.
The new prez in 2016 should have a working knowledge of biology, and environment, to augment decisions. This prez must realize his life, and every living things' lives, cannot be defined without "environment."
Our new prez will drink if he wants to be more cognitive. In conclusion:
"We found that on average the human brain has 86bn neurons. And not one [of the brains] that we looked at so far has the 100bn. Even though it may sound like a small difference the 14bn neurons amount to pretty much the number of neurons that a baboon brain has or almost half the number of neurons in the gorilla brain. So that's a pretty large difference actually." (Cherry, Kendra. – Dr. Suzana Herculano-Houzel. captured 4/10/2015. LINK)

"All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Mish-mashed articles by Pat Darnell | May 4, 2014 | Bryan TX

Up until recently, self awareness was our 'key' to being human. Now we consider Orcas and Honey Badgers as self-aware. Your pet ferret is probably as self-aware as Senator Boehner, which is not saying much. Humans have tagged themselves with a badge that is not earned.
Humans have mustered energies into creating themselves as monsters. In two ways we humans have missed the boat: 1) by not embracing human imperfections, 2) making imperfections our standards of success.
Greed, avarice, self-image, ego, or any of the seven deadly sins are what money changers and their ilk depend on for their trade. Humans feed off other humans by passing judgment on each other. I really don't want to proselytize any reader of this, rather I want to save people with "mental conditions" some of the anguish they encounter at the hands of predators.
In other words, if it sounds right, chances are it is right, regardless of how we have been led to believe. Savvy? No? The opposite is also true: if it sounds wrong, it probably is wrong. Here following is an opposition article about mental illness that might open some corridors:
Non-Conformity and Creativity Now Listed As A Mental Illness By Psychiatrists | Collective-Evolution: "“The nail that sticks up will be hammered down.” – Japanese Proverb
"...Is nonconformity and freethinking a mental illness? According to the latest addition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, it looks that way. The manual identifies a mental illness labelled as “oppositional defiant disorder, or ODD. It’s defined as an “ongoing pattern of disobedient, hostile and defiant behavior.”
"...It’s also included in the category of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The manual is used by psychiatrists to diagnose mental illnesses, and it seems that with each new issue a new, made up mental illness is added to the list. This isn't something new, in the Soviet Union, a systematic political abuse of psychiatry took place and was based on the interpretation of political dissent as a psychiatric problem. Mental illness has been used for political repression, those who were/are non-conformant and do/did not accept the beliefs of authority figures (like government agencies) face labels that do not represent them at all, and have no scientific backing what so ever..."

Brain specialists still do not know very much about how our brain works; thus, those same brain doctors have even less knowledge of how all the brains in God's animal kingdom function. A Washington Post article observed that, if Mozart were born today, he would be diagnosed with ADD and “medicated into barren normality (Andrew, Oct 8, 2010. LINK) ...”
Considering the fragility of the brain itself, in that it is not surrounded by muscle, cartilage, or massive bones, how can we go on battering it around, until it is bruised and dysfunctional? Your brain must be the control center for the senses as eyes, ears, nose, taste, tactile pick up stimulus. With newer brain scanning equipment that shows brain activity over time, we have some idea of how involved our brains are. We don't use only 10% of our brain as is commonly thought. Our brains keep busy, using as much processing capacity as it can to get us through our modern days and nights.
The writer of the referenced article, Arjun Walia, says:
Mark McGwire proved that performance enhancement made him a success. It turns out McGwire took his baseline ability and enhanced to a baseline+. So brain doctors are toying with brain performance enhancements, but can they define a baseline human brain? Call it Brain Industry, or call it Transhumanism, Human+, elevating the human condition; it will make no difference because we don't know yet what to enhance, and predator humans will continue to develop even stranger methods using the seven deadly sins to control outcomes. I call it brain abuse.

One can be a technophile, or a cyborg, or genetically enhanced, but unless that is coupled with the goal of moving beyond "humanity", it is not transhumanism. MooPig Brain Industries :: "Stroke and Heart Attacks"
Death Rates Correlate to Football Games
Retrieved by Pat Darnell | Feb 10, 2014 | Bryan TX
In previous posts in MooPig Wisdom, we have come to find that playing contact sports like American Football, World Soccer, and World Rugby can cause long term brain disease. " ... Head injury study of 35 former NFL and CFL players finds that 34 of them showed signs of brain disease before their deaths:
Don't we get overly excited, or overly morose when our teams win and lose? I found some studies of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular activity measured during football seasons. Surprisingly, heart attack and stroke numbers went up nearly 25% in cities where teams lost major games. But the researchers warn that "these results show an association but do not prove causality."
[Picture LINK]
How The Super Bowl Can Kill You: "Heart Attacks And The Super Bowl In the eight-day period after the Patriots unexpectedly lost the 2008 Super Bowl to the New York Giants, deaths attributed to heart attacks went up 24% in Massachusetts. Conversely, when the Steelers beat the Arizona Cardinals the following year, deaths from heart attacks decreased by 46% in Pittsburgh.
1) Is this coincidence? Maybe.
2) But the researchers only did these studies because death rates in LA famously went up in the two weeks after the Los Angeles Rams lost Super Bowl XIV to the Steelers. And you thought the players were the only ones who might get hurt. (MATT MCCARTHY on REGRESSINGMEDSPIN. 1/31/14. HERE) ..."

" ... Not surprisingly, Super Bowl Sunday tends to be the slowest day of the month in the Emergency Room. In fact, this has also been demonstrated across the globe. Decreased visits to the ER have been observed during UEFA Champions League games and during the Rugby World Cup (ibid. MCCARTHY) ..."
" ... We can expect roughly eight percent of fans leaving the Super Bowl to be legally intoxicated. (It might be even higher for people watching at a Super Bowl party.) An interesting proposal that hasn't gained any traction: Experts have suggested that beer sponsors should subsidize public transportation after the Super Bowl. (ibid. MCCARTHY) ..."
CONCLUSIONS
" ... Viewing a stressful soccer match more than doubles the risk of an acute cardiovascular event. In view of this excess risk, particularly in men with known coronary heart disease, preventive measures are urgently needed. -- Copyright 2008 Massachusetts Medical Society (Wilbert-Lampen U, Leistner D, Greven S, Pohl T, Sper S, Völker C, Güthlin D, Plasse A, Knez A, Küchenhoff H, Steinbeck G. 2008 Jan 31. " ... World Cup soccer games and, specially, Brazil's matches have an impact on the incidence of myocardial infarction, but not on in-hospital mortality. (Borges DG, Monteiro RA, Schmidt A, Pazin-Filho A. 2013 Jun. HERE). .."
"...Therapies targeting this pathway can potentially prevent acute mental stressors from initiating plaque rupture. Limited evidence suggests that appropriately timed administration of beta-blockers, statins and aspirin might reduce the incidence of triggered myocardial infarctions. Stress management and transcendental meditation warrant further study.(Schwartz BG, French WJ, Mayeda GS, Burstein S, Economides C, Bhandari AK, Cannom DS, Kloner RA. 2012 Jul. HERE ) ..."

1/31/14. HERE) ..."

'Minicomputers' Live Inside the Human Brain - Yahoo News: " "Dendrites thus act as miniature computing devices for detecting and amplifying specific types of input."
"Imagine you're reverse engineering a piece of alien technology, and what you thought was simple wiring turns out to be transistors that compute information," Smith said. "That's what this finding is like. The implications are exciting to think about."
All in all, "functions we thought required an entire neuron may be carried out instead by just one portion of a neuron's dendritic tree," Smith told LiveScience. "This would imply that a single neuron can act like many, many computational subunits.""

Are you feeling compartmentalized lately? Does your doctor keep sending you to "specialists?" Every time you get a blood test, the blood center calls back to say "all is normal." But you don't feel normal, like you used to. At age fifty some "tests" are mandatory; such as a endoscopy, eye tests, and urologists' tests. Let's not forget the prostrate exam, YIKES, I didn't study for any of these tests!
Your brain is depending on all these body functions to keep it running. Your whole physical makeup works in concert to nourish your brain with what it needs to get through every hour of every day.
CONCLUSION
I want even more brainpower so I can be an even bigger asshole. Ask your doctors how to achieve this. Tell them you want to be smarter than them.

MooPig Brain Industries :: "Sabotage"
Let's examine the issue and attempt to get at the truth behind the myth.
Mashed articles by Pat Darnell | Sep 29, 2013 | Bryan TX
Have you ever heard the claim that mankind is perverse? Well, here is a theory being bounced around. Our own intelligence is being sabotaged by our aggressive neediness of "wanting to believe." And some say we only "use 10% or 11% of our brains capacity."
No matter how you slice it, those who think they know stuff about our brains, heaven help them, may try to stimulate logical brain activities with truthful factoids, but many brains will rebel just because that is the brain's predetermination.
"The climate is not changing because of increased CO2 in the atmosphere," says the brain of someone who lives on the edge of denial.
Most Depressing Brain Finding Ever | Marty Kaplan: "Maybe climate change denial isn't the right term; it implies a psychological disorder. Denial is business-as-usual for our brains. More and better facts don't turn low-information voters into well-equipped citizens. It just makes them more committed to their mis-perceptions. In the entire history of the universe, no Fox News viewers ever changed their minds because some new data upended their thinking. When there's a conflict between partisan beliefs and plain evidence, it's the beliefs that win. The power of emotion over reason isn't a bug in our human operating systems, it's a feature."
'via Blog this'
Today in our society brain industries is quackery, say we. How many times do we "brain carrying species" have to be reminded that our capacity to use it in a constructive way, is below par? That brain bucket of ours just doesn't want to behave logically in the face of catastrophe. Let's look in at Wikki ...
" ... The 10% of brain myth is the widely perpetuated urban legend that most or all humans only make use of 20%, 10% or some other small percentage of their brains. It has been misattributed to people including Albert Einstein.[1] By association, it is suggested that a person may harness this unused potential and increase intelligence.
Though factors of intelligence can increase with training,[2] the popular notion that large parts of the brain remain unused, and could subsequently be "activated", rests more in popular folklore than scientific theory. Though mysteries regarding brain function remain—e.g. memory, consciousness — the physiology of brain mapping suggests that most if not all areas of the brain have a function.[3][4] (Y ikki peed ya. nd. LINK) ... "Who you going to believe? Do we or don't we use our brains for anything useful?
" ... The human brain is complex. Along with performing millions of mundane acts, it composes concertos, issues manifestos and comes up with elegant solutions to equations. It's the wellspring of all human feelings, behaviors, experiences as well as the repository of memory and self-awareness. So it's no surprise that the brain remains a mystery unto itself. ... (Robynne Boyd. Mind & Brain :: Fact or Fiction :: February 7, 2008. LINK) ... "
CONCLUSION
Our brains are not fully understood, but the myth that we don't use it is an attempt to explain why we sabotage logic all the time, with our beliefs. Ten percent of the brain is made of neurons, and the other 90% is glial cells. We don't yet know how the glial cells function or what they do -- glial cells, which encapsulate and support neurons, but whose function remains largely unknown.
SUMMARY
It's not that we use 10 percent of our brains, merely that we only understand about 10 percent of how it functions.

MooPig Brain Industries :: Google Zeitgeist 2012

What Google Zeitgeist 2012 Tells Us About Us | News and Opinion | PCMag.com: "Evidently, we really want to know about Whitney Houston, Gangnam Style, and Hurricane Sandy. The 2012 Top Google Searches were: Whitney Houston, Gangnam Style, Hurricane Sandy, iPad 3, Diablo 3, Kate Middleton, Olympics 2012, Amanda Todd, Michael Clarke Duncan, and BBB12."
Is that all there is? Nope.
'via Blog this'
We search the web for answers to our questions; what are our questions? Can they be translated to show our quests? ... Quests beyond just consumerism?
The 2012 Google mind map is too large but not unmanageable. It shows us the way to 1.2 trillion searches; 146 languages. That is roughly the capacity of one human brain; sure you cold learn 146 languages if you had to.
From Scientific American:
MooPig Brain Industries Department thinks that the day you see an aisle in the Walgreen's with the sign "Brain Products" posted, that will be the sign that machines have advanced to the realm of competitor.
Or, when your pet can play BorderLands as well as your teenager, that could be the sign that machines have "evolved."
So, regrettably your mind could be supplanted by terabytes of computer power, before you have a mind. But that is the way of the future; Or is it?
It is hard to believe that the Apollo 11 spacecraft had a computer with only 2k of memory and 32k of storage. Earlier missions had relied upon as little as 24k of core read-only storage, and 1k of main memory.
Moore’s Law ... which originated around 1970 ... simplified version states that processor speeds, or overall processing power for computers will double every two years. The limitation which exists is that once transistors can be created as small as atomic particles, then there will be no more room for growth in the CPU market where speeds are concerned.
On the other hand, ... perhaps molecular computers, quantum computers can takeover when silicon power is exhausted. But then the question is, what’s the timeframe?
Hey, our brains are three dimensional. But, did you, reader, catch that -- "heat and leakage" -- we might want to tweak our brains in this age of techno-barbarism; all that leakage will catch up with us.
Using natural human curiosity and Google search, will we download our brains?

From Scientific American:
" ...The human brain consists of about one billion neurons. Each neuron forms about 1,000 connections to other neurons, amounting to more than a trillion connections. If each neuron could only help store a single memory, running out of space would be a problem. You might have only a few gigabytes of storage space, similar to the space in an iPod or a USB flash drive. Yet neurons combine so that each one helps with many memories at a time, exponentially increasing the brain’s memory storage capacity to something closer to around 2.5 petabytes (or a million gigabytes). For comparison, if your brain worked like a digital video recorder in a television, 2.5 petabytes would be enough to hold three million hours of TV shows. You would have to leave the TV running continuously for more than 300 years to use up all that storage. (Paul Reber, professor of psychology at Northwestern University. April 19, 2010. HERE) ... "A reader comments:
"... I'm sure this is just a mistake in editing; after all, even Neuroscience for Kids gets the number of neurons right: 100 billion neurons and a quadrillion synapses. Since your estimates here are magnitudes of order wrong, though, and if they were used for further calculations, doesn't that make the rest of your calculations in error as well? (ibid.) ..."It's not yet an exact science, neither brain industry nor Google zeitgeist. the author above, Reber, goes on to explain:
" ..."The human brain consists..." I should have gone with the commonly held estimate of ~100 billion. However, in terms of the numbers of neurons in the brain likely to participate in long-term memory of facts, events and episodes, 1 billion neurons is not a bad estimate. That might be surprising, but if you look into the details, e.g. a report trying to estimate the number of neurons, [Report LINK] (ibid.)... "The point being a year of Google activity is equivalent to one regular, everyday human brain. There are those who think once the "machine" surpasses the brain's capacity to think and adapt, it will become our ... lord - boss - teacher - owner - maestro ... or what ever supplants the human brain in capacity is called.

" ... Our brain is a learning machine. It encounters tasks and then learns how to overcome these tasks, one by one. So that's going to be the basic problem. Simply digitalizing information, that's easy, we can simply scan information into a computer. But, you see, our brains learn. We learn to adapt new ideas, we begin to learn new tasks and new things. And that's going to be a lot more difficult to replicate by computer. So, I personally don't think we're going to see that in our lifetime. (MICHIO KAKU. JANUARY 19, 2011, 12:00 AM. HERE) ... MooPig Brain Industries :: "Improve your Brain Health - Lumosity"
Conclusion
Lumosity costs about $80 per year but there is a trial available on the site. The monitization scheme is the down side for me and probably a million other potential users. The exercises are fun and obviously effective in stimulating the suggested areas of cognitive ability. As for Lumosity's extended claim of increased cognitive ability, I obviously cannot say. I do tend to remember the items on the grocery list better and I can now spot a yellow bellied sapsucker while reading a speed limit sign. Seriously, research has shown that exercising brain faculty in this way is helpful and healthful. As for paying $80 to hone these skills, I think free games that emulate Lumosity could probably be aggregated by most users, but progress would be more difficult to track... Improve your Brain Health - Lumosity:
Train your Brain, play some games, get a score to ponder and we haven't paid anything yet for Lumosity. But you can be sure you might eventually have to pull out your Debit Card to continue... but the introductory is kind of fun ... if you like games.

Picture Your Improvement With This BPI Chart
Lumosity users often ask how much they can expect to improve with training. The short answer is you can improve a lot. The chart included shows the average Brain Performance Index (BPI) for users as a function of the number of Lumosity games played, up to 1000 total games. BPI is Lumosity’s version of IQ — it measures your ability to handle the speed, memory, attention, problem solving, and flexibility challenges on Lumosity...
About a month ago I began testing a fascinating new beta called Lumosity. The service is designed to exercise user's brains with a series of games that promote cognitive skills. According to Stanford neuroscience graduate and Co-Founder Michael Scanlon these exercises build cognitive ability in processing speed, cognitive control and attention. Playing these fun and simple games for as little as 30 minutes a day can promote quicker thinking, improve memory, increase alertness, improve concentration and even elevate a user's mood.__________________________Reference
Lumosity was created by Lumos Labs a cognitive R and D company that builds software tools to improve brain health. Lumos was started in 2005 by Kunal Sarkar, Michael Scanlon and David Drescher, all of whom possess impressive scientific and/or business credentials. Lumos Labs also has a scientific advisory board comprised of some of the leading neuroscientists in the world.

BBC News - Alzheimer's brain plaques 'rapidly cleared' in mice: "Specialists said the results were promising, but warned that successful drugs in mice often failed to work in people.
Researchers Paige Cramer said: "This is an unprecedented finding. Previously, the best existing treatment for Alzheimer's disease in mice required several months to reduce plaque in the brain."
The exact cause of Alzheimer's remains unknown, but one of the leading theories involves the formation of clumps of a protein called beta-amyloid. These damage and kill brain cells, eventually resulting in memory problems and the inability to think clearly."

We at MooPig International plan to keep this up until we see an aisle at the Walgreen's titled: "BRAIN."
We search MooPig Wisdom blog, and get eight pages worth of LINKS, in no particular order:

From the Picture at the top:

Group Urges 'Hit Limit' In Youth Football

Group Urges 'Hit Limit' In Youth Football - Health News Story - WISC Madison: " The adolescent football player's brain is rattled an average of 650 times per season. That's just an average. There are positions on the football field where the numbers approach 1,000 hits to the head."
'via Blog this'
"We regulate a lot of things in kids' lives and brain trauma should be one of them," said Nowinski. "There are kids getting hit a thousand times a season. Is that good for children's development?"
"You've got the toughest men in the room [NFL players] saying there is no such thing as a tough brain," said Nowinski. "If the NFL is willing to do that, then we should do that for kids as well."
And while a small fraction of those hits actually lead to a diagnosable concussion, the concern is that sub-concussive damage - the menacing smaller blows that add up during practices and games - could be as bad, or worse, for the brain.
With those sobering stats in mind, the Sports Legacy Institute Friday called for the adoption of a "Hit Count" - similar to the "Pitch Count" system used in baseball - for youth athletes participating in contact sports.

1. It boosts blood circulation in your brain. It zeros in on your brain’s tiny blood vessels so they can deliver oxygen more efficiently. It even helps your brain use oxygen better.
2. Since it keeps your brain cells charged up with high oxygen levels, it increases the amount of time your brain can go without fresh oxygen. That means it can keep your brain cells from dying.*
3. It helps your body preserve its energy for a robust brain and power for healthy living.* It preserves something called “adenosine triphosphate” or ATP—the fuel every cell of your body needs to function.

Brain Industries :: Labeled, Desensitized, and Redirected -- Part TWO American Football under Review
Football Pitch-man Dies at Age 72
Retrieved by Pat Darnell and the Herd
... A lot of people say to me: "Pat what are you doing?" ...
ME: "I am behaving in an obsessive, compulsive manner that is in concert with my brain and how it functions. I am clipping articles, like you may have seen so many others end up doing... sort of a trail of 'wonder' ... shall I apologize?"
They ask: "HUNH? What does that mean?"
ME: "Only, this type of clipping is like a digest of things that spark random highlights in my dendrites, but I get to Cut\Paste with a PC, all night, if I wish."
They ask: "Then why this article on Don Meredith?"
ME: "I see here that Dandy Don died from a brain hemorrhage, and he was a football player who received a minimum of 2000 knocks to the head in a year of football practice and game playing, for every year he was in football... and that could have led to nerve damage, or neck damage that he learned to live with ... although his brain had raspberries all over it from concussions ... causing him to die earlier than he might have .... say -- his life should have gone into the nineties, -- twenty years short, I'd say. Twenty years is a long time in human age.
Don Meredith
Meredith played for the Cowboys from 1960-68, taking them from winless expansion team to the brink of a championship.
"Dandy Don" died Sunday after suffering a brain hemorrhage and lapsing into a coma in Santa Fe, N.M., where he lived out of the limelight with his wife, Susan, for the last 25 years. He was 72.
Meredith was the life of the party in the "Monday Night" booth from 1970 through 1984, except for a three-year stint playing a detective on NBC's "Police Story." He spent 11 of those years teamed with another former star player, Frank Gifford, a friend before they became broadcast partners.
Meredith also appeared in more than a dozen made-for-TV movies, specials or dramas. He once filled in for Johnny Carson on the "Tonight Show," and was a popular pitchman for Lipton tea. [Read Entire Article Here]

MooPig Brain Industries and Gym :: American Football under Review
Art by MOoPIg Paint | Source Articles Retrieved by Pat Darnell
Today, while Lindsay Lohan is sent yet again to jail for failing her drug test, while a SIMILAC recall is underway, and as the Republicans unveil their pledge to the American People, while Pribek ponders who should represent him as comedian to address the US legislatures ... we are reminded of harsh realities of battered brains inside heads.
Yes, football as it is played in the US might contribute to brain damage in athletes. No we are not going to segue into Pink Floyd's Brain Damage ... but we are going to overstate the obvious as we at the MooPig Arsenal of Best Practices Journalism are most apt to do.
Heads up American Football, contact sport, taught religiously from 3rd Grade to Senior in Colleges, is being reviewed in the Professional leagues. Seems someone noticed the 52G ramming speed of a linebacker taking it to a running back. This was done by putting "sensors" in the linebacker's helmet. The special helmet costs about $10,000 [a bargain when one compares the money being borrowed and spent by the US Government].
" ... [from same article] ... This week there were more shocking revelations when autopsy results revealed samples of Thomas' brain tissue showed he had chronic traumatic encephalopathy or CTE, brain injuries caused by repetitive head trauma which have been linked to depression and impulsive behavior, CBS News Correspondent Cynthia Bowers reports.
"It does give a possible contributing factor to what was an astounding, out-of-the-blue act," said Katherine Brearly, Thomas' mother. ... [SOURCE]"
So, just sayin', maybe it is best for football players to leave their brains on the bench during play ... just sayin'. It could save a lot of brains -- that we are told are a terrible thing to waste. Just sayin'.

Report from the Middle :: the Multi-Taskin' Brain
Brains’ Industries of the Multi-Task
By Pat Darnell
It is difficult for almost all humans to access multiple data banks simultaneously in their conscious daily life. Lets’s skip the night time dream states... and although the human brain is functioning on a multi-task level as long as the human is breathing... it cannot for instance negotiate the proper punctuation of a group of triads in a musical score, while mulling over the percentages of fragmentation on its owner’s hard drives over a long period of time. Or can it.
“Can do” is, in human terms, a “should do,” but not universally achievable. A brain works fast enough to simulate foreknowledge, as in playing music or performing gymnastics. For instance, musical scores can be practiced until the performance is automatic... and any accidentals are easily covered. Furthermore, constant defragmentation of hard-drives will yield a baseline of data for anyone concerned with the life expectancy of those drives. Empirical evidence glares in the face of human reasoning... no?

Some folks are prone to do certain activities because their mental state requires them to multi-task in an altered state of mind. Washing the dishes has long been a task that stimulates the other wavelengths available to human thinking.
You know a person who has an automatic dishwasher, yet still washes the dishes in the sink before placing in the DW? Maddening to some observers, but that person is seeking comfort of alter wave length brain activity. Why do you suppose we designers have been placing the kitchen sink at the kitchen window for ‘umpteen generations of homebuilding?
Like playing music, which uses motor and memory skills in hand-eye coordiantion, washing dishes sets the tone of the similar bunches of your brain’s industries. Don't ignore 100 generations of washing dishes; and don't forget your American Musical Heritage.
So in fact one might be able to negotiate a stack of dirty dishes while mulling over the likelihood of hard-drive crashes. Multi-task just means a couple of things happening at one time, while the other functions go on as usual. All that other stuff about multi-tasking is silly; bells and whistles, distant thunder.
Pray for Providence, and that’s Brain Industry as MooPig sees it: Report from the Middle, where all the women are strong; the men are good-looking; and children are all above average.

Brain Industries :: Labeled, Desensitized, and Redirected -- Let's build a Megalith
Milestones [so-to-speak] of Brain-ology
Retrieval by Pat Darnell [article written in the spirit of Science Historian, James Burke, Circles, and Connections]
Who is smarter; Ancients or Us? Sometimes we, as a nation, act as if we never landed on the Moon. Consider these phrases as if they are two intermeshed halves of one sphere... spheres that we seek as a collective human group to touch, taste and smell; also fight about.
Yes we are rock harvesters, and students of stardust, and we will build our share of megaliths in our own solar system before it is all over.
[SOURCE] "Other megalithic structures such as these cromlechs (stone circles) and dolmens represent an even earlier stage of development of megalithic architecture, predating Stonehenge. Sites such as this are found in Spain, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Britain, Ireland and up into southern Scandinavia, showing that these structures belong to the native R1b genetic haplotype Celtic people who are indigenous to Western Europe and were its earliest inhabitants:"
Stone circle at Callanish, Isle of Lewis, Scotland
Conclusion: No one of ancient ,or, of modern times is smarter than the other. Our own brain is divided in two half-spheres that argue around each other incessantly. Can't my two brain halves just get along? Well, no they aren't supposed to. You see, it is why we are castaways in our own environment.
We could never have gone to the Moon if ancients from 10,000 years ago had not built Megaliths and used them to follow Moon patterns for 17 to 18 years. They did this for a particular moment when the Moon caresses a distant mount's profile that looks like a woman in repose... just once every generation. Talk about spectacle. That event used to bring out the major party-going crowds.
Later, at 250,000 miles away in the vacuum of space, Americans in 1969 navigated across a landscape of extreme conditions on the nearside of the Moon. Astronauts drove a Moon Rover across uncharted moonscapes.
Therefore, before astronauts' extra-terrestrial away miracle event occurred, around 1610, the first Americans led by Sir Walter Raleigh, and Colonist John Rolfe brought tobacco seeds from Trinidad. Rolfe mixed seeds with New World species and fostered tobacco industry that flourished. Unfortunately, Brit's had kidnapped Pocahontas and Rolfe married her to assure his crops reached fruition in the Indian lands.
American grown tobacco as a cash crip built fortunes that are today still being used to build better and faster space vehicles.
Could it have been seeds of observance from much earlier, about 8000 BC, sown by settlers of the Isles of Scotland. Ancients going about the industry of charting cyclic movement of yonder Moon, built their megalith of stones at Callanish, to track an eighteen year cycle of the moon's behavior.
Anything happen to your brain as you ponder these time\space fractals with me? Yes? That is Brain Industry...

What does this list of axioms have to do with the rest of the article? Stick around a minute or two, read on, read on...
- Othiseus lived in the days of Achilleus
- ... The East is Mammon. The West follows money into a pen
- In The West, all roads are fed through Rome
- ... Masculinism = Honour Culture
- Attila was the Scourge of the Goddess
- ... The East has hated The West since before its Races were Self-Conscious
- In America today, you can't even talk straight
- ... Krauts are the real Scape-Goats
- Selfishness during War is Treason
- ... If you say it's too hard, you've only said you're too soft
- Just because you can't beat them doesn't mean they can't be
- ... A loyal son must exceed the deeds of his forefathers, for he already has their shoulders to stand on
- Never say "if" to God
- ... Cowardice and Treason is the lowest deed and highest crime
- Every loser has a "special" sad story
- ... A wise man knows he ain't worth two pricks
- America demonstrates the effects of blindly letting women define masculinity

Between the first example and second one: It turns out the United States would never have existed, while in a different pioneer enterprising effort, 359 years earlier than the moon landings, settlers mostly from England found a harsh life on the Eastern shores of North America.

Today, audiences are going to gaze up at a ceiling full of stars and hear your voice explaining all of the gases, the masses, the dark matter and the infinite. Now if you’d like to make things really interesting, you could take the Kathleen Turner approach to voice-over narration and smoke a very large cigar, chased by a double shot of whiskey. No one paid for “average”. And don’t worry, friend, you don’t actually have to know anything about the universe; someone has taken the trouble to write it all down for you."
