MooPig Parenting Trap Department :: "What I Say..."

In the Beginning there were no Creations called Parents ...
Retrieved articles by Pat Darnell  |  Dec 28, 2013  |  Bryan TX

[Picture LINK] Pelletier was taken to Boston Children’s Hospital when she got the flu in February. Her parents said doctors at the hospital accused them of medical child abuse – something they vehemently oppose.

The 7 Worst Things You Can Say To Your Child: "Parenting can be so damn stressful. Kids push boundaries and buttons, and it’s a parent’s job to stay calm and steady in the face of it all. But most of us don’t perform this job with absolute perfection. We sometimes and say things to our kids we wish we could stuff back inside our mouths. I’m sure most of us have some cringe-worthy moments to mull over and make up for" (REBECCA ODES | June 30th, 2011. LINK) ..."

Kind-patience, long-suffering, friendly-courtesy, calm-serenity, soft-skills, might not be part of a person's vocabulary before he or she becomes a parent.

The conditioning one receives from perilous parenting supplants all previous learned curricula. One cannot escape a child's adolescence, and the parent usually ends up unable to forgive oneself for all the battles that came out of that "special" time. Action speaks louder than words; at least that is what we thought. Our words are remembered, and remembered, and repeated, for generations.

This linked article gives us at least seven examples of things we say as we resort to incivility in our conversations with our children:
  1. "If you don't stop that I'm going to leave you here"
  2. "Why can't you be more like your sister or brother?"
  3. "You're the reason we got divorced."
  4. "Because I said so, that's why."
  5. "Here, let me do that for you."
  6. "You should be ashamed of yourself."
  7. "We never wanted you anyway."
I'm GUILTY of most of these. YIKES!

A Eulogy for Mom

Some of you know Jerre Jean Hynds Darnell as your coworker. Others know her as your party planner. Some know her as their dance partner. The board of Directors knew her as that fastidious worker. You might have caught her style as she walked the runway at the Country Place style show. Maybe you see her in her yard. You might see her praying with her church circle. Many know her as your top secret confidante. Many, many know her as that ravishing beauty. I don't often use the word ravishing, but in Mom's case she is.

But you see, Jerre Jean Hynds Darnell is my Mother!

She bore me, she named me with her heart of hearts husband, and she raised me.

My brother and sisters know of what I speak.

Most important to me is that Mom always speaks the truth. Jerre Darnell always tells the truth. That is her way. The truth isn't always the most popular thing we want to hear. Sometimes when she said those truths, it would make me want to run and hide. And she always stuck to her guns. If you fidgeted, she tells you to sit tight. If you tried to pull her away from her important task, she tells you to hold your horses.

When conversations become nonsensical, Mom relies on her maternal wisdom. Her truth statements have become pearls in her children's, grandchildren's, and great-grandchildren's lives. Mom's wisdom, you see, comes back to her.

Mom and her steadfast friend, Robert, are blessed with long lives, 67 years of which they have been husband and wife.

What is Mother --
what is Mother,
without her house
and her child?

Her babies are born
and grown in her domicile

Many houses
Mom has known
Many seeds she has sown,

Where she settled
she made it her own.

As years gathered numbers
some ideals are put to rest
her children, now with children,
are wiser, never alone, at best,
for Mother journeys with us ...

See all their bright little faces
Hear their falsetto voices,
... full of trust, truth, and whim,
Creating such a din.

Thank you all for coming.

MooPig Parenting Department :: "Parenting in Today's World"

Parenting, the Test of Fire!
Retrieved by Pat Darnell | Jan 6, 2012 | Bryan TX
[Picture LINK]

Sometimes MooPig Opinion and Editorial Department runs across this "SuchandSuchBlog.com is no longer available. The authors have deleted this blog."

"We know the time is coming when Blogging will be a liability," says Grappler Dorns, editor of Op/Ed. "We can only hope that our attempt to provide our children with a cross section of the world at the turn of the century will survive."

But that is not all there is to it. You see, Timmy, there is a subculture of oblivion underneath all of this, and most everything you put on the Internet is going to go down with the end of Mother Earth in a few billion years. Yes, our blogs, and quips, and twitters, and Reddits will all go into the massive black hole of destiny, and survive.

So will our attempts at parenting. Since we all decided to be immortal and pass on our genetic codes to our unsuspecting bairn, we will genetically be included in the over all scheme of perpetuity. Do you feel better now? I didn't think so. In fact it might make you more anxious.

We take this segue moment to look into a recent book that took a decade to write, and will take us a decade to read.

All too late. "After six our nest is almost empty," laments one father to his wife.

Andrew Solomon's book about parenting abnormal children, "Far from the Tree."
" ... Drawing on forty thousand pages of interview transcripts with more than three hundred families, Solomon mines the eloquence of ordinary people facing extreme challenges.
" ... Many families grow closer through caring for a challenging child; most discover supportive communities of others similarly affected; some are inspired to become advocates and activists, celebrating the very conditions they once feared. Woven into their courageous and affirming stories is Solomon’s journey to accepting his own identity, which culminated in his midlife decision, influenced by this research, to become a parent. ..."
Watch out, Andrew, it will be your test of fire!

Susan Klebold's Story - Business Insider: " ... After such tragedies, people struggle to contemplate why a young person could do something so horrific. In The New York Times, Solomon wrote about interviewing the Klebolds a number of times over eight years to try to find some answers. Here's what he wrote:
" ... I began convinced that if I dug deeply enough into their character, I would understand why Columbine happened — that I would recognize damage in their household that spilled over into catastrophe. Instead, I came to view the Klebolds not only as inculpable, but as admirable, moral, intelligent and kind people whom I would gladly have had as parents myself.
It's impossible not to feel for Susan Klebold when reading her first-hand account of raising a mass murderer, which O Magazine published in 2009." (Erin Fuchs. Jan. 4, 2013, 4:54 PM. HERE) ... "

MooPig's Brain Industries :: Alzheimer's News

The hippocampus region of the brain
Retrieved by Pat Darnell | Nov 29, 2012 | Bryan TX

Brain's metabolism can predict progress of Alzheimer's with 90pc accuracy | Big News Network: "In very early stages of the disease, before any symptoms appear, metabolic processes are already beginning to change in the brain, said PhD candidate Shiri Stempler of TAU's Sackler Faculty of Medicine. Working with Profs. Eytan Ruppin and Lior Wolf of TAU's Blavatnik School of Computer Science, Stempler has developed predictor models that use metabolic information to pinpoint the progression of Alzheimer's. These models were 90 percent accurate in predicting the stage of the disease."

Next the researchers will try to identify biomarkers in the blood that are associated with these metabolic changes. That may lead to detection and information about the disease's progression with an easy and non-invasive blood test.

Texas Power Plants #1 In US For Mercury Pollution

Retrieved by Pat Darnell | Aug 15, 2012 | Bryan TX

[Picture LINK]
Texas Power Plants #1 In US For Mercury Pollution: "When you take a closer look at these pollution rankings, Texas emerges as a special case. Texas does rank #10, but it’s #1 when you look at just one pollutant, mercury. That’s because many Texas power plants burn lignite, a type of coal that is high in mercury.

Peter Altman is also with the NRDC:

“Mercury is the one that we have been the most concerned about because it has such profound impacts on our brains and our neurological systems, particularly those of children and unborn children.”"

The state of Texas is one of the states that has sued to stop the new rules.

[Picture LINK] " ... When I came across maxslu's photo I was absolutely captivated by this childs's eyes. I could imagine a soul both ancient and wise looking out from behind them. An Angel from the stars. ... "

Excerpt by "Mahmud Kianush"
[ ... ]
It is easy for poets
To talk of love
In beautiful songs and sonnets,
Lamenting the sufferings of separation,
Or enjoying the delight of union
With a real or
an imaginary beloved.

... But of the real terror
That tears the heart of a crying child
Abandoned to its fate
Amid the burning debris of war,

No one has ever written
That great tragic ode
And it will remain unworded
To the end of man and earth.

Moopig's "Who Would Win in a Bar Fight #5"

 Newt Gingrich

“Really poor children in really poor neighborhoods have no habits of working and have nobody around them who works, so they literally have no habit of showing up on Monday,” Gingrich said.
“They have no habit of staying all day. They have no habit of ‘I do this and you give me cash’ unless it’s illegal.”
