VETERAN US senator Edward Kennedy left hospital yesterday giving a thumbs up to waiting supporters a day after doctors announced he had a malignant brain tumor.
May 23, 2008 12:00am / Article from:Experts say Senator Kennedy is unlikely to survive for more than a year.
But the 76-year-old Democrat seemed in good spirits and wasted no time getting on with life.
His wife Vicki told the Kennedy clan in an email that her husband had been eager to check out so he could get organised for a big weekend sailing regatta.
"Teddy is leading us all, as usual, with his calm approach to getting the best information possible," she wrote in the email.
"He's also making me crazy (and making me laugh) by pushing to race in the Figawi this weekend."
Senator Kennedy, sailing in his schooner Mya, has been a keen competitor in the race from Hyannis to the island of Nantucket, about 50km south across the Nantucket Sound, for most of its 30-year history.
As he walked out of the hospital, embracing family and friends and waving to applauding supporters before getting into a waiting car, the senator looked remarkably fit.
"This is my Brain Tumor; I earned it" [might have] said Teddy KennedyThe Democratic liberal lion was released ahead of schedule from the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston where he was admitted on Saturday after suffering a seizure at the Kennedy family compound in northeastern Hyannis.
The diagnosis that the Democratic patriarch, the last surviving brother of assassinated president John F. Kennedy, had a malignant brain tumour had sent shockwaves through Congress, where he has been a dominant figure for nearly half a century.
But on Wednesday the hospital said Senator Kennedy had "recovered remarkably quickly from his Monday biopsy procedure and therefore released him ahead of schedule". - AFP

See, some things are just funny like, Ted Kennedy driving a boat.
"You can't say that, Jack! That's insensitive! C'mon...you know...Chappaquiddick."
Oh yeah, forgot about that.
Nah...Ted Kennedy driving a boat, that's funny! That's still funny, voice of reason, somewhere deep inside the layers of abused consciousness.

Hey it is just like someone special once said: "Irreverence is the champion of liberty and its only sure defense. (-Mark Twain's Notebook).
"Necessarily we are all fond of murders, scandals, swindles, ..."
It is Mark Twain, the other favorite son of Missouri. I get the feeling his mind talked to itself too.
"The devil's aversion to holy water is a light matter compared with a despot's dread of a newspaper that laughs." - "The American Press," first printed in Mark Twain: Press Critic, University of California, 2003.
