MooPig Architecture Nano-second Department :: "The Tallest Buidling ..."
[Picture LINK]
Is in Dubai...
Taller Tales Articles by Pat Darnell | July 28, 2015 | Bryan TX
Take a nano-second out of your busy day and contemplate Tall Buildings around the world. What, and who do they house? We sure don't know who leases all that high floor space. What we do know is that tallest skyscrapers are almost always structures that define a place. That is they are what puts many places on the maps.
Sears Tower, a skyscraper in Chicago that was the tallest building in the world until the construction of the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, put Chicago on the map for many years. Yes, that is Sears and Roebuck Company, but is now called Willis Tower, because "... London-based insurance broker Willis Group Holdings got a steal at $1 million per year [starting March 2009] for the naming rights as long as it leases at least 103,716 square feet in the building. Their lease is up in 2025. ( Melissa Harris, Chicago Tribune. March 4, 2015. LINK)..."
In the United States, "... Completed in 1973 as the Sears Tower, the 110-story building was the world's tallest for 23 years. It lost its designation of tallest in the U.S. after the Chicago-based Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat ruled in 2013 that New York's One World Trade Center is taller.(ibid. Harris) ..."
Which brings us to the article we found about a very tall building to be built in China ... Changsha Tower ... building whose construction has been halted now for two years: "...The proposed Sky City tower was set to become the world's tallest building, but its construction was postponed just days after it started in 2013, amid safety fears and a lack of necessary government approval.(de zeen magazine, 20 July 2015. LINK) ..."
This modern hypodermic needle designed tower at 838 meters high, was to be built using modular components -- after pouring its foundation -- in only 90 days. YIKES! The large 2.6 hectare holes dug for its foundation have been filled in and are now fish farms and melon patches. Read more about it in this LINK 'ed title:
Planned skyscraper plot in China repurposed as fish farm: "At present the title of world's tallest building is held by the SOM-designed Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which stands at a height of 828 metres. It is expected to be overtaken by the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, which is already under construction with a projected height of over 1,000 metres."

CONCLUSION
Land use has been the story of mankind. Bluntly, land grabs are the common denominator in humankind's history. How a hectare of land is "purposed" depends on the meeting of imaginations of humans who over come the imaginations of others who oppose with their own purposes. Once there is a meeting of minds, towers will be built. The mega-universal-corporation in the US that leases the majority of space in tall buildings usually gets to name that tall building.

MooPig Art History NanoSecond Department :: "Sigfried Giedion"
If you have ever had a question in your mind of how the environment of cities came to be, you might look into reading this nice book. You will just have to take our word for it. Sigfried Giedion was an Art Historian who lived at the turn of the century, 1900. His contemporaries invented Organic Architecture, FLW and Alvar Aalto, and le Corbusier, and city scapes. This book on Modernism compares art, sculpture, and architecture as he explains his environment in a good way.
His 900 page book Space, Time, and Architecture -- The Growth of a New Tradition was recently [Sep 2008] investigated in the thesis shown in the attached reference LINK. The book was introduced in its first publication in 1941.

MooPig Appreciating Art Nano-second :: "Daily Duty"
State-of-the-Art
Re-directed Martial Articles by Pat Darnell | Jan 18, 2014 | Bryan TX
Sitting and shitting may be the only thing humanity shares universally with each human doing his own daily bid'ness. Yes, this article could be under MooPig's Department of Scatology, but it is art work of a daily duty shared by all. Have a look.
Artist Paints World Leaders on the Toilet… | artFido's Blog: "Just when you thought you’d seen it all, Italian artist Cristina Guggeri comes along and blows it out of the water with her latest series called Il Dovere Quotidiano, or “The Daily Duty”. In this series, Guggeri sets out to ‘humanize’ the world’s leaders by imaging what they might look like on the toilet."

Everything has been already done in art, architecture, and life in general.
Depend on MooPig to keep you informed. We will be monitoring all forms of excrement through out the world, and maybe make some charts up, and possibly mash a bunch of articles together to help you in your scatological pursuits. MooPig Architectural Bombast Department :: "Froebel Blocks and FLW"
Frank Lloyd Wright wrought us Organic Design on a Grid
Mishmashes articles by Pat Darnell | Apr 4, 2014 | Bryan TX
If we were to design a Kindergarten, this is how we would do it ... just copy what Froebel did over 170 years ago. Add this to your Home Schooling curricula, and don't be shy.
[Picture LINK]
Froebel ® Blocks - educational toys from the original Kindergarten: "When Friedrich Froebel established the first system for educating young children, he created a series of playthings to provide children with focused educational experiences. Up until that time, toys were intended for amusement and education was provided through books and instruction. Froebel's Kindergarten used play as its engine and his Spielgabe (or "play gifts") were the fuel. During his lifetime he codified the series of Froebel Gifts up through Gift 7 (parquetry tablets). "

Here is an edited transcript of the above youTube...
0:04 Friedrich Froebel invented kindergarten his "garden of children" over 170 years
0:09ago
0:09his spiel ... or play gifts were the original
0:13educational toys and the first child development tools
0:16Froebel developed his ideas about preschool education over a period of 20
0:20years
0:21from 1830 until his death in 1852
0:24he drew his inspiration from the great educator
0:27Pestalozzi and other philosophers such as Rousseau
0:30... main contribution was to synthesize ideas from education
0:35science and philosophy with his own observations of child development
0:41the materials he created were influenced by his studies in architecture
0:44and by his important work in the field of crystallography mathematics was more
0:49than an intellectual pursuit of Froebel
0:51it was the language of the universe he created toys for children that would
0:55allow them to experience the order
0:56and beauty of the physical world
0:59starting with gifts 1 through 6 children experience three-dimensional solids
1:04all forms of the physical world with gifts 7 to 9
1:08children experience two-dimensional shapes ... side to solids
1:11lines the edges of solids and points
1:15the cycle abstraction is completed with gift 10, the framework --
1:18-- this framework is a representation of solids made from
1:22points and lines
1:24while this may seem too abstract for young children the Froebel gifts help
1:28children to perceive the geometric building blocks of the world
1:31at a time when they're not able to understand them intellectually
1:35Froebel created three distinct ways to play with the Gifts
1:38he named these forms of Life, forms of Knowledge,
1:42and forms a Beauty, in forms Life, children are asked to create something from their
1:46world using
1:47... the gift pieces this could be a bed, or a house ...
1:51adults guide children through forms of knowledge activities in which the child
1:55explores
1:56mathematical and scientific properties with the Gifts,
1:59this could involve cutting the size of a cube, discussing the properties of a
2:03specific triangle or discovering the sound a piece makes when
2:07it is dropped on the floor, most types of math equations can also be reasoned out
2:11using the Gifts
2:13forms of beauty are abstract designs made with the Gifts using just two rules
2:18-- always use every piece and -- modify but never destroy
2:21design, it is important not to dictate designs
2:25but allow the child to create if a child wants to make something new
2:29he must find a way to modify an existing design stages
2:32to arrive at the new concept ... by playing with Froebel gifts
2:37a child builds his foundation of symbolic learning by internalizing these
2:41experiences
2:42this is a natural process for every child Froebel
2:46only sought to refine it why leave such an important activity to chance he
2:50thought, when a prepared environment will better nurture a child growing brain
2:54in Froebel's garden of children, adults help children to explore the world in a
2:59concrete way
3:00many years before they will understand an abstract discussion of art
3:04nature or geometry ... the gifts were just one part of his total system
3:09which also included songs in movement games, gardening
3:12and the craft activities he called occupations ...
3:15these various activities reinforced ideas for the five senses
3:20visual, auditory, tactile, kinesthetics, ... Froebel realized that in infant's brain is
3:25still forming
3:26he concentrated his efforts on children from birth to age 7
3:30in Froebel's time this was considered foolish, but he intuitively understood the
3:34mechanisms of the infant brain
3:36over 150 years before science could confirm it; ... next he understood that a
3:42child's desire for play was nature's way to help stimulate the brain to grow
3:46the true nature a child is that he is sincerely trying to make sense of the
3:50universe by exploring it
3:52... it only seems natural that the parent would give the child experiences
3:56designed for this purpose
3:57play is the engine that powers education Froebel use many materials in his schools
4:03but he only wrote about the first seven gifts ...
4:05his followers expanded the list to include materials he used in his
4:09kindergarten
4:10but never described in his writings because of this the number of gifts as
4:14has ranged from 10 to 20 different items
4:17almost immediately after his death in 1852
4:20his followers spread to other countries and began to teach about the
4:24kindergarten
4:25England played an early role in establishing english-language
4:28kindergartens
4:29the book by Johan and Bertha Ranga a practical guide to be English
4:33kindergarten
4:34was the first guide to the Froebel gifts in English published in
4:381863 in the United States the Milton Bradley company published Edward B b's
4:43book the paradise of childhood:
4:44in 1869 this book listed twenty gifts
4:48actually happen be should have been called occupations
4:51the difference being that a gift can be returned to its original form
4:55while an occupation craft activities such as painting or folding paper
4:59cannot be undone it was good business to have more gifts
5:03so milton-bradley encourage many variations on the gifts
5:06even placed alphabet letters on the blocks which is completely against
5:10...Froebel's plan
5:12next came Maria ...'s kindergarten guide
5:15she outlined 13 gifts in volume 1
5:18and 11 occupations in volume 2 the extra numbers came from the various persons a
5:23gift a connected slats, Straight sticks, curves sticks
5:27in 1882 Herman Dahmer's German language book "the kindergarten" was
5:31published in English
5:33the main contribution by Dahmer, was the inclusion up the
5:36curvilinear Gift, he called five-b ... he correctly understood that
5:40Froebel had not intended to give series to be closed but to function along
5:44certain parameters
5:47Elizabeth harrison's book the kindergarten building gifts
5:50promoted the curvilinear series developed by Bell woodson
5:53and used in the Chicago kindergarten college the simplicity of the gifts in
5:57confusion about them led to their misuse
6:00as busy work ... or simply as manipulatives ... many kindergarten teachers
6:05use the gifts by rote,
6:06dictating their use to the 4 to 5-year-olds in their care ...
6:09it was the ignorance and rigid adherence to incorrect techniques
6:13that ultimately contributed to the abandonment of the Froebel kindergarten
6:17today ... for Froebel, is mostly known for his affect on modern art and architecture to
6:21the works of Frank Lloyd Wright R Buckminster Fuller ...
6:23the educators of the early 20th century saw Froebels' work as part of the
6:28German Romantic movement
6:29or worse as some mystical quasi-religious ... because of their
6:33unfortunate lack of vision and understanding
6:35the true power of Froebel's work was lost.
6:39the most amazing thing about Froebel's gifts is that they are not absolutely
6:43necessary to follow his method the idea behind the gifts is focused play
6:48this could be done with materials acquired from a nature walk
6:51or with everyday household objects there is nothing mystical about the gifts
6:56as so many educators misunderstood it is about a trained adult guiding a child to
7:01form connections in their mind regarding the nature of the physical world
7:05the adult gently helps the child to experience
7:08and understand these fundamental ideas ... in this way
7:12the child can put their new ideas into a context ...
7:15this is Froebel's goal ... the understanding by the child at the logic and
7:19interconnectedness of the universe
7:21all future information can be put into the right context or framework ... his
7:26method allows children to form an outline for future knowledge
7:29before they are asked to fill it with otherwise meaningless facts
7:33children are not empty containers waiting for information to be poured in ...
7:37it is more important in this age of the Internet to know how information fits
7:41together
7:42than to memorize the facts themselves. The foundation of Froebels' philosophy is
7:47that humans are creative beings
7:49unlike animals, whose lives have not changed much in millions of years
7:53we humans are constantly altering our world ... our superiority over other species
7:58is due to the fact that abstract ideas can exist in our minds
8:02it allows us to become creative beings we can conceptualize the vast universe
8:07or the tiniest sub-atomic particles it is both a profound truth in a simple
8:12fact of our biology
8:13the new millennium requires children to live in an ever-changing technology
8:17filled world
8:18parents and educators now realize that early childhood is the most important
8:23time in a person's education
8:24many believe that for Froebel's kindergarten is still the most advanced
8:28system for
8:29early childhood development ever created ... To recap
8:32Froebel created his kindergarten gifts between 1830
8:36and 1852 ... the gifts were part of a system
8:39including songs, games, and occupations ... Froebel
8:43only name gifts 1 through 7 his followers created several numbering
8:47schemes for other gifts
8:48gifts 1 through 6 or solids 7 a surface
8:52eight is line, nine is point, and 10 is a framework for solids
8:57the gifts are not mystical but rather simple tools to stimulate symbolic
9:01learning
9:02... PLAY is the heart of the Froebel system ... children construct their understanding
9:07of the world through direct experiences
9:09humans are creative beings who can visualize
9:13new ways of living Froebel wanted children to see the
9:16interconnectedness of all creation ... We need for Froebel's method now
9:21for our technological world

7:33children are not empty containers waiting for information to be poured in ...
7:37it is more important in this age of the Internet to know how information fits
7:41together
7:42than to memorize the facts themselves. The foundation of Froebels' philosophy is
7:47that humans are creative beings
7:49unlike animals, whose lives have not changed much in millions of years
7:53we humans are constantly altering our world ... our superiority over other species
7:58is due to the fact that abstract ideas can exist in our minds
8:02it allows us to become creative beings we can conceptualize the vast universe
8:07or the tiniest sub-atomic particles it is both a profound truth in a simple
8:12fact of our biology
8:13the new millennium requires children to live in an ever-changing technology
8:17filled world
8:18parents and educators now realize that early childhood is the most important
8:23time in a person's education
8:24many believe that for Froebel's kindergarten is still the most advanced
8:28system for
8:29early childhood development ever created ... To recap
8:32Froebel created his kindergarten gifts between 1830
8:36and 1852 ... the gifts were part of a system
8:39including songs, games, and occupations ... Froebel
8:43only name gifts 1 through 7 his followers created several numbering
8:47schemes for other gifts
8:48gifts 1 through 6 or solids 7 a surface
8:52eight is line, nine is point, and 10 is a framework for solids
8:57the gifts are not mystical but rather simple tools to stimulate symbolic
9:01learning
9:02... PLAY is the heart of the Froebel system ... children construct their understanding
9:07of the world through direct experiences
9:09humans are creative beings who can visualize
9:13new ways of living Froebel wanted children to see the
9:16interconnectedness of all creation ... We need for Froebel's method now
9:21for our technological world

MooPig Wisdom's Exit Strategy #2
Hire Freelancers
Matriculated articles by Pat Darnell | Sep 9, 2013 | Bryan TX
Why is this an "exit strategy" you ask? It turns out, MooPig has written itself into a clausterfrack ... and now corporate thinks it should invite freelance writers to contribute and compartmentalize their reports to specific MooPig Departments. Through compartmentalizing we then can spread our miserable anecdotes in markets before-to unheard of. And no one will be the wiser.
Pick a MooPig Department that you fancy --
Now, submit your curriculum vitae to MooPig Enterprises for the department you prefer to work in. Say what ever you want to, and it can be as long as you desire, but remember if we can't compartmentalize you, you will receive no compensation. Consequently you will receive no compensation otherwise ... because we don't have any money to give.
We figure that if we insult as many writers as possible, we will receive the rewards that will come from an all negative press we will receive when you writers in turn scorn the pants off us for being deadbeats.
If you want to be compensated for your posts, you should read Nick Usborne's articles:
One simple question that can increase all your online writing fees.: "1. Asking the question makes you look good. One thing I hear consistently from clients, and not just my clients, is that they love to work with freelancers who display a genuine interest in their business. They really like freelancers who truly want to understand and help. One way to express your interest in their business is to ask how the project you're working on fits into the bigger picture. It shows that your interest in their business expands beyond the one thing you are being paid to do." (September 5, 2013 by Nick Usborne. LINK)

MooPig Report from the Middle :: Enjoy this LINK to Living History
by Pat Darnell | Dec 3, 2011 | Bryan TX
I watched a Three-D Muppet Show while in Orlando once, back in 1993. It was while doing a trade show for a healthcare company, part of the deal included a group pass for a night at Disney World. So me and total strangers all visited the park.
What I remember most is wishing my kids could have been with me. The whole time at the park was spent analyzing the event, like I was a secret shopper at Kmart. But, the Muppet's Show was so cool I could barely believe my eyes, and senses, as the 3-dimensional characters flew all over the theater.
I have since come to believe the Sesame Street Generation is a great group of kids, now young adults. In contrast, today, children watch Family Guy, South Park ... going back to Beavis and Butthead, now in re-run. Lord help them.
I like the Muppets, and I know you do too.
[ ... ]
The Muppets Are Real (And Miss Piggy Got a Boob Job): "The Muppets is very much, an island out of place in time. It takes place in the modern day, yet also doesn't seem to be set in any one particular era. Change the cars, lose a few props, and you could have set it in the 1930s."

MooPig Report from the Middle :: Judge NOT lest Ye be JUDGED ...
Every News Story, Every News Release is a LIE ...
Retrieved by Pat Darnell and the Cheep Shot Boys
There is one, at least one, after all, Universal Truth ... "Every one's shit stinks." That is universally true. When someone starts trying to tell another that his shit doesn't stink, any listener can be assured that this is a lie.
How does MooPig know this?
MooPig Department of Scatological Measurements has spent years proving that all shit stinks. "Basically it is the bacteria mixed in with blood, and other decaying organic materials that emits shit-like smells," said MooPig's Scatological Editor, Dr. Bean Thera, PhD Scatology. "The only example I can think of is if a Cow shat on the moon's surface where there is possibly only micro climate... well, then the shit might not stink. But that is so far fetched."
Far fetched is the catch word we were looking for. MooPig has some interesting facts on scatological overlays, but nothing to equal the squirting and leaking of shit coming from WikiLeaks ... brainchild of Julian Assange. He is a hybrid of Swedish neutrality, gone rogue on international scale. First off, the amount of shit leaked is unconquerable, but every word of it alters truth as we have read it for the past decade, or two.
The Julian Assange and associates' Wikileak fountain of leaking shit could eventually reach a billion documents. "The sheets of paper from the leak, put end to end would make it to the moon and back at least once ... ," Says MooPig's MooN Orbit Department head, "It's only a quarter million miles (238,857 miles) to the MooN; imagine that divided by eleven and a half inches of paper, as in end to end ..." explains Hoag Car Mikael, PhD Stardustology. "Easily there and back."
"The year has been a year of Leaks of murky shit. First the leak of unwanted garbage piled up in cities around the world, during labor strikes, then a leak of extinction level event with Event Horizon, ... er... I meant BP Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill Disaster .... you get what I mean..." said MooPig's Off Shore Drilling Department spokesperson, Gwenda Dose Dallas. "Now we have a leaking pile of shit that is almost the worst leak imaginable, Bureaucracy Documents, leaking in a fashion that belies our imaginary matrix of documentation within the Intelligence Community."
Never a truer word spoke, Gwenda. Comparing the document leakage shit to the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill Disaster is brilliant. In fact the hug of truth could become the mantra -- if WikiLeaks is telling the truth.
Since MooPig has founded its whole blog and bullshit on basis that everything we hear in the news is a lie; could Julian Assange have also made up this whole bit? Did this Swede dude fabricate 250,000 bureaucratic documents? Hmmmmm, we held a MooPig-Enterprise-wide powwow; and we pose this question to our network:
"Is this just simply another bombastic News hound patsy making shit up to pass the time away in his otherwise paltry life?"
That's our Report from the Middle, where all the shit stinks around here, where the Men are good looking, the women are strong, and the children are above average. [Thank you to the far fetched Garrison Keillor]

MooPig's Art History Nano-Second :: Carlo Bugatti, 1855 or 56 - 1940, Milan
MooPig's "One and an Eighth Chads" Art Moment
by Pat Darnell
Did you know Carlo Bugatti designed a 30 string harp guitar, hybrid?
Carlo Bugatti, birth year unknown, 1855, or 1856; his work shows him to be "a very intense individual, and it reveals his essential nature; self-assured, unconventional, and determined to put his aesthetic stamp on every detail of life. (Dorfman, John. April 2010. Art and Antiques HERE)"
Born and raised in Milan. Studied art and architecture at Brera Academy. Carlo was considered a poly-math, nicknamed Leornardo. Luigi, Carlo's father, was an architect and inventor, quixotic fellow, looking for the perpetual motion machine. Carlo who is responsible for the Bugatti Designer reputation, began designing in 1880.
He designed seating, statues, motifs, and his furnishings prophesied the coming Art Nouveau and Art Deco as early as 1888. His design approach was "totalizing, if not controlling: He would design every element, and in one case he created a room for a client in which the approved positions of the furniture were woven into the pattern of the rug...!"
That furnishing was displayed at an International Exposition of Modern and Decorative Arts in Turin of 1902. His designs had been also on display at the Italian Exhibition of Earl's Court in London of 1888. Carlo as we know, did not limit his "Renaissance ideals" to furniture design. He moved his whole family, to Paris in 1904. Carlo made his own special tools, and design-built musical instruments.
His furniture received complaints that it "is impractical and uncomfortable." Carlo Bugatti however enjoyed a strong customer base during his lifetime. And many of his one-of-a-kind originals were produced as "diffusion pieces" and manufactured in larger numbers under license.
Carlo, Rembrandt, Ettore Bugatti
"Carlo Bugatti's sons grew up in his workshop and studio learning to work with their hands and to pay loving attention to visual detail." Both sons, Rembrandt and Ettore, took up the art, science, and engineering their father had shown them. Ettore the older son, entered the same Academy, Brera, as his father's. The younger son Rembrandt was "socially awkward and quiet, but dazzling in his peacock-like mode of dressing." Ettore was confident and commanding resembling his father, Carlo.
Rembrandt Bugatti became a sculptor of combining "keen observation with deep empathy and often a touch of pathos. (Dorfman, John. April 2010)"
Rembrandt would catch his sculpture subjects, like big cats, in "fleeting poses -- panthers stalking; and, elephants on tiptoe, stretching their trunks; or, a stag scratching its neck with hind foot, poised defying gravity for a second." His motivation came entirely from within himself. He was not opposed to avant-garde that was fashion then, just indifferent because he was from the beginning a complete "master of form and rhythm."
"He's [Rembrandt] been under represented in the art world in may regards because he's hard to group togerther with other artists comfortably... " writes Bart Walter, a contemporary American artist, sculptor of animals bronzes... inspired by Rembrandt since 1980's. "His ability to capture gesture is downright eerie."
During World War Two "all the animals in the Paris Zoo had to be killed for lack of food." Rembrandt was devastated. Depression over took him in that era, affected by violence of the War, isolation from his family, worries of financial decline, Rembrandt's sensitive soul found it impossible to go on. He committed suicide on January 8, 1861 age 31.
Ettore Bugatti, felt he had to distinguish himself in a different field. He did so, but in the same awareness of "... a feel and mastery of form and rhythm ..." that his father and brother distinguished as the Bugatti work ethic. "His genius is intimately bound up with his family's collective genius."
Ettore designed his first automobile at age 19, in 1900. He believed "that each part of an automobile should not only be functional but beautiful, including the internal parts." By 1930, Bugatti's autos were "streamlined, tear-drop shaped" ... designs that are way ahead of their time.
" ... The threads that link the works of all the Bugattis are these: Mastery of three-dimensional space; meticulous attention to craftsmanship; love of curves and organic forms; and a steadfast adherence to individual vision, answerable only to aesthetic that comes from within. (Dorfman, John. April 2010)"[SOURCE Mullin Museum]

MooPig's Art History Nano-Second :: Valentin Serov, 1865 - 1911, Moscow
This top painting, Ida Rubinstein, the inspiration behind Ravel's Bolero. Portrait by Valentin Serov.
Retrieved by Pat Darnell and I. B. Wrightback | [SOURCE]
Petersburg 1865-1911 Moscow [Article HERE]
Valentin Aleksandrovich Serov began his art training by studying with K. Koepping (1873-1874) and later with I.E. Repin (1874-1875 and 1878-1880). He then was a pupil of E.B. Chistiakov at the Petersburg Academy of Arts from 1880 to 1885. For long periods of time he lived at Abramtsevo, the country estate of the well-known art patron Savva Mamontov, where he was a part of the Abramtsevo Art Circle. He graduated from the Academy in 1884 and became an active member in 1903. Two years later, however, he left the Academy in protest over the Tsarist government's shooting at the workers' demonstration on January 9,1905, which marked the beginning of the first Russian Revolution.
In addition to teaching at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture from 1897 to 1909, Serov participated in the Circle of the Itinerants and their art exhibitions (1894-1899) and in the societies of World of Art (1899-1903) and the Union of Russian Artists (1903-1909). The greatest portraitist of his time, Serov continued the traditions of late nineteenth-century realist portraiture, which were made richer by the achievements of Impressionism. In his later years, Serov's works presaged the artistic developments of twentieth-century painting. He produced landscape paintings as well as historical compositions and genre scenes.
