The Best Gear You Can't Get

I love America, I really do, but I’m getting awfully tired of watching you folks in Asia and Europe getting your hands on some of the coolest gadgets long before they arrive stateside. You’ve got eco-friendly LCDs, Blu-ray–burning camcorders, Wii remote chargers, ultrathin phones, MP3-players with massive internal drives and much, much more. Here in the good old U.S. of A., we’ve got, well, the iPhone. Seriously, all my international readers should check out this story on PCMag.com to gloat. U.S. readers, check it out if you can handle your blood boiling just a little bit.

The Top 100 Undiscovered Web Sites
This newsletter almost didn’t get written today, and I have this story to blame for it. For every blurb I write in WNN, I try to read all or at least a large part of the story. I did the same with this list of the Top 100 Undiscovered Web Sites, and before I knew it, nearly an hour had flown by. I kept following links and hanging around these sites for 10 minutes or more. They’re funny, informative, technically excellent and just plain useful. I love ZocDoc, Oddee, Jott, Truemors and more. Set aside a nice chunk of time and have fun!

PCMag.com's Back-to-School Shopping Guide
In my home, returning from vacation means getting very serious about back-to-school shopping. The kids need clothes, folders, pens, paper, and, of course, technology. I bet it’s the same in your household. Get a handle on the whole mess with PCMag’s excellent, and frequently updated, guide.

Toshiba Announces New DVD Technology
This little tidbit left me speechless. Toshiba, still sporting bruises from the lost HD fight with Sony, has now stepped back into the ring (maybe with just one foot) with a new standard DVD format that could rival Blu-ray (at least for market share). This is nuttiness.
