Truck Stop Girl
Written by lowell george and bill payne
Tailights flickerin, as he pulled up to a truckstop
The same old crowd was hangin out again tonight
He said, fill up my tank while I go check my load
It feels like its shifting all around
He was the kind of man, do all he could
Above all he had integrity
But he was so young
And on a ten city run
In love with a truck stop girl
As he went inside, he was merrily greeted
By the girl with whom he was in love
She held out a glass and said, have another
This is the last time we can meet
With her hair piled up high and a look in her eye
That would turn any good mans blood to wine
All his eyes could see, well all his eyes could see
Was the stare from all those around him
He ran out to the lot, and climbed into his rig
And drove off without tightening down
It was a terrilble thing, to see what remained
Of the rig that poor danny was in
And he was so young and on a ten city run
In love with a truck stop girl
But he was so young, and on a ten city run
In love with a truck stop girl
If You're Thinking Of Committing Suicide...
Retrieved HERE because it is a good link for some excellent alliterations on life....by
Thomas De Quincey, author of Confessions of an English Opium-Eater, once wrote ". . .sometimes under the transfigurations of music I felt of grief itself as a fiery chariot for mounting victoriously above the causes of grief." If you're thinking of committing suicide, here are a few songs that might make you change your mind.
The Byrds
A.R.E. Weapons - Don't Be Scared
If pep rallies were like this, I'd have had teen spirit.
Blur - Sing
4:33 to 4:58 in the song is why God invented elephants for man to make ivory.
Leonard Cohen - Suzanne
Like taking a rowboat through the It's A Small World ride after a nuclear apocalypse.
Eels - Woman Driving, Man Sleeping
Small moments of bliss.
Jane's Addiction - Classic Girl
"For us these are the days," is sung with enough passion to make it truth.
Joy Division - Atmosphere
Sounds and feels like revelation. Obviously Ian Curtis did end up committing suicide; but the way he sings "Don't walk away, in silence" is the sound of life fighting the darkness.
Little Wings - Faith Children
A soft, simple, sorrowful plea from the heart of of hope: "Faith, children..."
Mekons - Last Night On Earth
A soul-stirring anthem for the end of time.
Modest Mouse - So Much Beauty In Dirt:
Short (under two minutes) and sweet. I didn't think anything that references M*A*S*H could move me, but I was wrong.
Roy Orbison
Mother Love Bone - Chloe Dancer/Crown Of Thorns
Strangely but greatly affecting to me; unfortunately the lead singer later died, leaving us with Pearl Jam. Something about the simplicity of the lyrics merely adds to its grandeur.
New Radicals - You Get What You Give
I file this one under guilty pleasures. I know I shouldn't like it, but, oh, "you got the music in you!"
Pinback - Tripoli
Sweet and soothing, like a warm bath filled with sedatives.
Sacred Dervish Dance of the Sufis [Turning; Turning; Turning]
Primal Scream - Keep Your Dreams
It sounds like a lullaby from the future; a last radio transmission through time from a world come to an end.
Primitive Radio Gods - Standing Outside A Broken Phone Booth With Money In My Hand
Music to accompany the first groggy step out of bed, or the first step down from the noose.
Stranglers - Golden Brown
Sometimes a beautiful ditty can be more than enough.
U2 - Bad
Catharsis.
Vaselines - Son Of A Gun
Has a melody that would make a trip to Hell seem like a wonderful new adventure.
The Verve - Lucky Man
Forget "Bittersweet Symphony" and the Alamo for that matter. This is the song.
And once again for the bliss of it.... wish I had one of their guitars....

How about Queen's "Don't Try Suicide"?
Okay you got me and I had to google around to hear it... hmmmm. Humorous. But what if the "suicider's" humor ain't at that particular moment?
I think the Hemlock Society could be interviewed on this one: "Do you think Queen's 'Don't Try Suicide' piped over the Golden Gate would help those trying to decide, to decide not to?"
Jump!

Good one, Jack.
Frank Z's Suicide Chump is pretty funny;
You say there ain't no light a-shinin'
Through the bushes up ahead
'n we're all gonna be so sorry
When we find out you are dead
Go head on and get it over with then
Find you a bridge 'n take a jump
Just make sure you do it right the first Time
'cause nothin's worse than a Suicide Chump
Suicide Chump... heheh
This is all small picture thinking.
"Political Science" by Randy Newman
"They all hate us anyhow
So let's drop the big one now
Let's drop the big one now"
Okay, since we are going socio-politick I want to add heaven's call: Hallelujah, Leonard Cohen...

[don't forget to read the comments on the utube]
It is said "a thousand angels get wings when a human sings one hallellujah"
DAMWIGTT -- don't ask me where i get these things
and T Waites... reminding us all we are never alone through the night,
A cab combs the snake,
Tryin' to rake in that last night's fare,
And a solitary sailor
Who spends the facts of his life like small change on strangers...
Paws his inside P-coat pocket for a welcome twenty-five cents,
And the last bent butt from a package of Kents,
As he dreams of a waitress with Maxwell House eyes
And marmalade thighs with scrambled yellow hair...
...And the early dawn cracks out a carpet of diamond
Across a cash crop car lot filled with twilight Coupe Devilles,
Leaving the town in a-keeping
Of the one who is sweeping
Up the ghost of Saturday night...

SUICIDE, by Evelyn Scott
1920
A dirty little beetle
Peers into motionless eyes
Transfixed to their depths
As by shining needles.
Limbs are taut in ultimate resentment.
A bare sky confronts an upturned face.
Like a wheel vanishing in speed
The corpse, containing everything,
Has swallowed itself.
All funny, and entertaining.
I add "Turn, Turn, Turn," Byrds
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNopQq5lWqQ
How many times did you have to play this one Jack? Enough times to add a fourth "Turn"?
I'm glad Roger, Chris and David got back together again. Really.
But because of a drunk woman behind the wheel, the version of the Byrds I like best, the one with Clarence White, can never play again.
So, I suppose we can throw in "Truck Stop Girl".
