CATS

The cat population in Belgium, a country of 11 million, stands at 1.7 million, according to the Guardian. Daily culling of cats has resulted in some 13,000 killed in shelters, which represents one in three of the country’s strays. [SOURCE]

The Guardian says this is the first national compulsory sterilization effort and will be watched closely in other countries dealing with escalating cat populations. A cat can have one pregnancy every six months resulting in as much as 36 kittens in less than 15 months, reports a director with Global Action in the Interest of Animals (GAIA), a Belgian animal rights group.

MacArthur Fellowships 2010

Kelly Benoit-Bird, a pioneering young oceanographer from Oregon State University, has been selected as one of 23 recipients of a prestigious 2010 MacArthur Fellowship.

[SOURCE]
At the head of the research world is Ms Benoit-Bird who uses sonar to study all the living things in the water. She has received a MacArthur Fellowship stipend of $500,000 mackerels to pursue her pursuits, "no strings attached" -- [unless of course one is studying String Theory].. We say that is a honey of a deal of chips on her fish. "And we think it is a great booster for Sushi, too," said Fluchs Sanders, chief water man at MooPig. "But our work at MooPig Enterprises pales in comparison to hers."

MooPig's "Oceanographic Studies and Boardwalks Department" submitted their report, as shown above, to Ms Benoit-Bird, in hopes of receiving some stipend them selves, or at least a 'Yell out at 'cha'.
Benoit-Bird, 34, studies the interrelationships of animals in different marine environments, using acoustics and other sophisticated technologies. Her innovative uses of sonar in tracking marine creatures from Humboldt squid to spinner dolphins have led to new discoveries about their feeding behavior, movements and even communication.

MooPig's "Why" Department

WHY is Information Lost? the Answer may require an Ego-death Experience.
by Pat Darnell

Why do we constantly reach out to touch our past?

Research is what it is: a re-touch, read again, dissect the past, oblivion, a lossy compression... and some say it is the Hebrew alphabet. (LINK) Our sensory limitations are stretched when we are asked to go by faith, believing in past things.

Mummy hunters in Egypt look into tombs and find bones of who knows who; why? In quests for understanding, we often lose our sense of priority, and go barging into grave sites.

Curious about our past, some even read and re-read Hemingway to find a clue. In that context, clues are few and far between, and overly cryptic info is rarely easily absorbed by living brains; brains that want to compress information into patterns of recognizable tidbits. That stops no one, though, as we build our machines in like form. A trade off some might say; as human sensory scales are limited.
Our computers use compression algorithms that make data more sortable, as some data is repetitive. By taking advantage of the limitations of the human sensory system, a great deal of space can be saved while producing an output which is nearly indistinguishable from the original. These lossy data compression methods typically offer a three-way tradeoff between compression speed, compressed data size and quality loss.
Why then is it the past-present-and future is so odd in a rarefied existence sort of way? Because we go outward when we are discovering the past, as in space exploration, where information in the form of light takes light years to reach our sensors. And, as we travel inward, the same perplexity of information escapes our limited human experience; as we approach tiniest "substances" of multi-dimensioned matter that exist beyond our vision.

Memory is our foothold. For instance my wife and I both have expressed at various times "how" we remember the kids as babies. Once we were looking at photographs, and our daughter, as a baby, was dressed in a familiar jumpsuit. My wife said she remembers how the little jump suit felt in her hands. In remembering these valuable sensory events about our children, we are at our most transparent, or ego-dead moments.

Truth is -- information is not lost, but it takes faith to fill in the blanks when duplications are encoded, and the original is long gone.
"The ancients studied the patterns in the heavens- I ... [Stan Tenen] ... began to think, 'What would happen if you could map the patterns of the temples of the heavens onto the temples of your mind?' The patterns in the Hebrew Bible are the same as those in the heavens; when you chant regularly you are weaving these patterns onto your mind, internalizing the patterns of the universe-stepping out of your skin to have an ego-death experience." COWS Says Women still Earn Less in Comparisons

" ... Maybe this will be an opportunity for people

Nevertheless, the gender wage gap remains persistent and substantial. In 2009, women earned 81 cents on the dollar compared to men (see Figure 1). This gender wage gap is slightly wider than the 2008 gap of 82 cents on the dollar. With a median hourly wage of $14.50 in 2009, Wisconsin women’s wages were roughly 19 percent lower than men’s. At this rate, a full-time woman worker in the state would earn around $30,200 per year, on average, compared to more than $37,400 per year for men—a difference of over $7,000 in earnings annually.

For all Wisconsin workers, education—particularly securing a four-year degree—pays off in increased wages. However, while the gender wage gap diminishes with higher levels of education, men earn more than women at all education levels, as shown in Figure 2. In 2009, women with a high school diploma earned 75 cents on the dollar compared to men with the same education. This improves to 80 cents on the dollar for women with a Bachelors degree and to 89 cents on the dollar for women with more than a four-year degree, compared to similarly educated men.

Here's how we Spin the Delhi Commonwealth Games Story

MooPig Contention and Cookies of Parody, by Pat Darnell

The whole 9\11-terrorist-like planned attack on infrastructure is the work attributed to this implicated, half-insect, ... half-human creature who orchestrated the entire catastrophe. What should have been the Delhi Commonwealth Games is now a tragedy.
"I'm trying to remain eternally optimistic. But at some point we will reach the point of no return and that is when we will have to decide."

The sense of impending crisis was exacerbated when a section of the ceiling in the weightlifting arena fell down amid growing fears over rising flood waters near the athletes' village, which had already been condemned by team officials as "filthy" and "unfit for human occupation".

With the Games at risk of descending into farce, thousands of athletes from the major competing nations remained in the dark about whether or not they would be boarding a plane to compete.

When asked 'Why he did it?' Mahmoud Admadinejad said "I could sure use a shave." That is when most every top notch athlete and his delegates got up and walked out of the room...

The beleaguered Delhi chief minister, Sheila Dikshit, played down the problems and accused the media of damaging India's image. "Something may be dripping, some tile may collapse, doesn't mean the entire Games are bad," she told reporters. [LINK]

It is now known that the accident on Tuesday, in which 27 were injured when a bridge connecting the athletes' carpark to the main Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium collapsed, was caused when a metal pin worked loose detaching the main structure from its suspension cables.

Five workers remained in a critical condition, several with serious spinal injuries. Most of the injured were contracted labourers from poor rural areas. Campaigners say dozens of workers have been killed and hundreds injured in a succession of accidents at Games venues.
Insect-Man, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, might have said Friday 'the UN should investigate the "true reason" for the "bridge collapse" attacks' as he defended a speech which implicated the US government in the atrocity.

"I did not pass a judgement, I simply made proposals for a humane solution to the problems that have risen as a result of Rugby players who eat their dead," Ahmadinejad told a press conference. [LINK]

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Sudanese diplomats scuffled with security workers at the hotel where the Iran delegation is staying during the U.N. General Assembly's annual meeting, police said Friday.

Letters to the Editor

Hi Patrick

Do you want to know how to fail with your projects? In this light-hearted view of project management, we'll tell you how to go about everything wrong! Yes you heard us right. That way, you can learn what NOT to do on your project. Hope it helps!

How to Fail your Project

Take these 5 tips to deliver your project OVER time, OVER budget and make your customers miserable along the way...

Step 1 - Never Plan: "What's the point of planning when no-one follows my plans anyway? My plans get printed, forgotten and put on the shelf. I'm just going to roll my sleeves up and get stuck in to the project?" A wise man once said: "if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail". So planning is all about making sure that the right people work on the right tasks at the right time. Only if you plan can you be sure that you'll deliver your project on time.

Step 2 - Don't Communicate. "Why do I have to tell everyone what's happening all the time? It's pointless. All they have to know is what their daily task list is. Communication takes too much time. It's not worth it!" The reason you have to communicate is that it keeps everyone on the same page so they all know how each other are getting on, when they have to work harder and when they don't. For instance, if no-one knows that the project is slipping, then what chance have you got of delivering it on time if you don't communicate?

Step 3: Forget leadership, it's over-rated: "My team had better do their job or else they will get a kick up the bum when I come into the office tomorrow. You have to constantly crack the whip to get your staff to work effectively". While this approach may work in the short term, people need to be rewarded and recognized for their efforts long term, to be motivated. In short, they need to feel valued and only a true leader can do that. You need to always be positive with them, even when giving them a grueling. Apply balance. Be constructive. Think in their shoes. Great teams have great leaders. It's as simple as that.

Step 4 - Fall in love with Scope Creep: "Who cares if the customer has asked for more changes. If the project is late then it's their fault. If they want to constantly change the scope of the project, then I'm not going to stop them." Sure, your customer can change the scope when they want, but you have to control it because when the deadline has been exceeded and your project is still not complete due to all of the change requests you've allowed, then your customer's not going to be happy.

Step 5 - Forget your customer, once the project has started: "Once I have my customers approval, I don't need to hear from them until the project's complete. The less I involve them in the project, the less havoc they can wreak. If I don't talk to them then they won't hassle me." That approach might work, until you need their support. Then you're in trouble! If you need your customer to approve more time, money or resource, then you have to keep them on side at all times. They have to be informed at every step in the journey and feel a part of the project team, if you want their full buy-in.

Treat your customer as though they were your best friend. Shower them with love, talk to them often and ask favors when you need them. If you have their full support, then you'll get what you need when you need it.

We hope this refreshing view of projects helps you see what you should and shouldn't do to deliver successfully.

One last tip - to avoid project failure, use smart tools that save you time and effort to get the job done. Get the "Project Management Kit" of templates. They help you work smart and get more done in less time. [SOURCE]

Rescission by Insurance Company's

"I'm sorry Mr Potter, it says right here on your application that you are one inch taller than you actually are standing here in front of me. Also it says you are 29, and your gender is Male ...
You lied on your application so we are rescinding your coverage. All these Doctor Bills are yours."
[SOURCE]

That was yesterday. Today ObamaCare says Insurers cannot rescind any policies at all. Yep. Sounds like September 23, 2010, begins a new era of crafty Insurance Underwriters' pooling their wits in finding ways around ever having to pay a claim. But for sure they will not be able to collect co-pays, or impose rescissions.

This should be interesting to watch over the next decade.

Report from the Middle :: "Internet Warfare"

What could be more natural than warfare... now explained in context of the Internet. A Cold War term from those days in Russia -- "Ideological Aggression" -- has tripped up interested MooPig Report from the Middle Editors.

From this last LINK on chemical warfare as practiced by plants, yes flora, in nature:
" ... In his 1844 story "Rappaccini's Daughter," Nathaniel Hawthorne described an elderly doctor who tended a mysterious walled garden of poisonous plants. The old man's demeanor in the presence of his shrubs and vines "was that of one walking among malignant influences, such as savage beasts, or deadly snakes, or evil spirits, which, should he allow them one moment of license, would wreak upon him some terrible fatality. ... "
And like the plant kingdom -- " ... A tree sheds poison daggers; a glistening red seed stops the heart; a shrub causes intolerable pain; a vine intoxicates; a leaf triggers a war: a Kudzu vine strangles a forest. Within the plant kingdom lurk unfathomable evils. ... " -- it turns out other would-be Internet developing countries consider the USA styled Internet a weapon.

Also, our Internet, other nations consider it an American form of subversion. Internet highways are considered subterfuges of mind control. Yes, it is happening; but is it armed aggression?

We build a tower to Babble and reap the destruction, that is, if it all be interfered with by reverse ideological aggression. This puts a new debate out there for brain industries to mull; but the outcome will depend on the legitimacy of the Internet as part of indirect, economic or ideological aggression. Truthfully, it does encompass all three forms of unarmed aggression. How will others react to perceived or proven aggressions? Will they initiate armed retaliation, or simply unplug the culprits?

That's our Report from the Middle: where the Men are all good-looking, Women are cleaved and strong, and Children are all above average.
